Food Safety and Standards Authority of India | Kanpur | Uttar Pradesh
Come festival season — especially during Ramadan and ahead of Holi — the demand for sweets, dry fruits, edible oils, and dairy products increases sharply. Unfortunately, this also raises the risk of food adulteration and illegal storage.
In a major enforcement drive, the Food Safety Department in Kanpur seized:
- 10,000 kg of rotten dates
- 13,972 litres of adulterated edible oil
- 1,350 kg of coloured waste material
- Goods worth ₹5.45 lakh
- A fake ghee manufacturing unit in Kalyanpur
All seized samples have been sent for laboratory testing, and strict action is expected against violators.
⚠️ Side Effects of Rotten Dates and Adulterated Oil
Consuming spoiled or adulterated food can lead to:
- Food poisoning
- Vomiting and diarrhoea
- Liver damage (in case of toxic oil contamination)
- Long-term health complications
- Chemical toxicity from industrial adulterants
