In a major move that underscores India’s accelerating shift toward healthier eating habits, Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL)—the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries—has announced the acquisition of Southern Health Foods Pvt. Ltd., the parent company of Tamil Nadu’s popular health-focused brand Manna.
The deal strengthens RCPL’s growing food and staples portfolio, which already includes well-known names such as Udayam, Independence, and SIL, while significantly boosting its footprint in the fast-expanding millet-based and nutrition-centric packaged foods segment.
Riding India’s Health-Food Wave
The acquisition comes at a time when Indian consumers are increasingly gravitating toward nutritious diets, driving demand for products such as millets, multigrain staples, and functional foods. RCPL has been steadily building its presence in this space, adding brands that align with its strategy of offering global-quality products at affordable prices.
Company officials said the purchase reflects Reliance’s long-term ambition to become a nationwide leader in health and nutrition, catering to evolving consumer preferences across urban and rural markets alike.
Strengthening the Portfolio
Commenting on the transaction, T. Krishnakumar, Director at RCPL, noted that Manna is among Tamil Nadu’s most trusted health-food brands, widely recognized for its millet-based staples, beverage mixes, and infant nutrition products.
He added that Manna’s inclusion will deepen RCPL’s packaged foods lineup and enable the group to deliver a broader range of wholesome options to consumers across the country.
What Does Manna Make?
Southern Health Foods operates across several health-oriented categories, including:
- Millets and millet flours
- Oats and multigrain products
- Health drink mixes
- Breakfast cereals
- Dried fruits and infant foods
With RCPL’s expansive distribution network, research capabilities, and supply-chain strength, the company plans to take Manna beyond its southern stronghold and transform it into a pan-India household name.
As Reliance continues to expand aggressively in the consumer-goods space, this acquisition signals a clear bet on India’s wellness economy—one where nutrition, affordability, and scale are set to define the next phase of growth in packaged foods.
