Uttar Pradesh is accelerating its push in the food processing sector with the approval of 14 new projects worth ₹200 crore across major cities including Varanasi, Meerut, Kanpur, Lucknow, Lakhimpur Kheri, Bareilly, Ayodhya, and Rampur.

In a significant move to strengthen rural supply chains, the state government has made it mandatory for every approved unit to:
- Procure raw materials directly from local farmers and livestock producers
- Submit a list of at least 100 farmers or dairy suppliers to qualify for incentives
This step is expected to ensure fair pricing, stable demand, and direct market access for farmers.
🏭 Policy Push & Government Support
Keshav Prasad Maurya has directed officials to actively promote subsidies under the Uttar Pradesh Food Processing Industry Policy 2023, aiming to attract more private investment into the sector.
🍯 Private Investment Boost
Apis India Limited is also planning a greenfield food processing unit in Western Uttar Pradesh.
- Currently procures 4,000 tonnes of honey annually from the state
- Plans to double procurement within the next 3 years
🌍 Growing Export Demand
India’s processed food sector is witnessing rising global demand, with countries like:
- United States
- Bangladesh
- United Arab Emirates
- Vietnam
already importing Indian food products.
🎯 Long-Term Vision
The Uttar Pradesh government aims to make agriculture and allied sectors a major economic driver, targeting a contribution of ₹84 lakh crore to the state economy by 2047.
