The Uttar Pradesh Food Safety Department (UPFDA) has stepped up its enforcement action against milk adulteration, carrying out a large-scale inspection drive in Kaushambi district as part of its ongoing state-wide food safety अभियान. The operation focused on ensuring that milk supplied to consumers meets prescribed quality and safety standards.
During the drive, food safety officials inspected over 39,000 litres of milk across four dairies operating in the district. The inspection involved checking storage conditions, hygiene practices, procurement sources, and compliance with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations. As part of the quality assessment, four milk samples were collected and sent to authorised laboratories for detailed testing to detect any form of adulteration or contamination.
Officials stated that the action was taken in response to continuous monitoring and intelligence inputs, as milk adulteration poses a serious public health risk. Adulterated milk can contain harmful substances that may lead to long-term health issues, particularly among children and the elderly, making strict enforcement crucial.
The UPFDA reaffirmed that such inspection drives will continue across Uttar Pradesh, with zero tolerance for violations. Dairies found flouting food safety norms will face strict legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act. The department also urged dairy operators to adhere strictly to hygiene and quality norms and appealed to consumers to report any suspicious food practices.
This enforcement effort is part of FSSAI’s broader initiative to strengthen food safety surveillance in states, ensuring that every drop of milk reaching households is safe, pure, and fit for consumption.
