Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer goods arm of Reliance Retail, is set to expand its footprint in South India with a major investment in Tamil Nadu. The company announced plans to set up an integrated FMCG manufacturing facility in the state’s Thoothukudi district.
A ₹1,156 Crore Investment
The upcoming facility will involve an investment of ₹1,156 crore and will be located on 60 acres of land at the SIPCOT Allikulam Industrial Park. This new unit is designed to serve as a multi-product hub, manufacturing a wide range of items including:
- Regional snacks
- Biscuits
- Spices
- Atta
- Edible oils
- Other essential food staples
Boost for Local Employment
According to the company, the project will generate around 2,000 jobs for local residents over the next five years, contributing to both industrial growth and livelihood opportunities in Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu’s FMCG Push
Tamil Nadu has been positioning itself as a preferred destination for FMCG and consumer goods companies. With its well-developed infrastructure, strong industrial base, and government support, the state has been attracting marquee players across sectors.
Highlighting this move, TRB Rajaa, Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister, shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Reliance’s investment aligns with the state’s vision under the “Dravidian Model” of governance, which emphasizes sectoral diversification and inclusive growth.
What This Means
The investment not only marks a milestone for Reliance’s FMCG expansion but also strengthens Tamil Nadu’s standing as a growing hub for consumer goods manufacturing in India. With increasing demand for packaged food and staples, the facility is expected to play a key role in serving both regional and national markets.
