In a strategic reshuffle, PVR INOX Ltd has sold its entire stake in premium snacking brand 4700BC to FMCG major Marico Ltd for ₹226.8 crore in an all-cash transaction.
The deal involves Marico acquiring 93.27% equity in Zea Maize Pvt. Ltd, the company behind 4700BC, while founder Chirag Gupta retains a minority stake and continues to run day-to-day operations.
🍿 From Movie-Theatre Popcorn to National Snack Brand
Originally nurtured inside PVR’s cinema ecosystem, 4700BC began as a gourmet popcorn offering before expanding into modern retail, e-commerce, quick commerce, and institutional sales. Today, its portfolio includes popped chips, makhana, crunchy corn, and nachos—well beyond its multiplex roots.
PVR INOX’s leadership described the exit as the “natural culmination” of its decade-long role in building the brand, allowing the company to monetise a non-core asset and redirect capital toward its core exhibition business. Management also stressed that the sale will not hurt in-cinema food revenues and is expected to improve profitability and cash flows.

For Marico, the acquisition strengthens its push into high-growth food categories alongside brands like Saffola and True Elements. The company plans to deploy its nationwide FMCG distribution, sourcing network, and innovation engine to scale 4700BC—while preserving its premium positioning.
CEO Saugata Gupta called the brand “future-ready with deep consumer connect,” signalling ambitions for faster expansion and new category launches.
