PepsiCo India is doubling down on its commitment to the Indian market, with plans to set up a new snacks manufacturing plant in Mannaparrai, Tamil Nadu. The move highlights the American snack and beverage giant’s ambition to strengthen its footprint across India, as it eyes massive growth opportunities in the country’s thriving food sector.
The Tamil Nadu government has allotted 28 acres of land to PepsiCo for the plant, which will focus on producing popular snacks like potato chips. This initiative aligns with the state’s push to boost agro and processed food industries through dedicated food parks in Mannaparrai, Theni, Nagapattinam, and Tindivanam.
India’s Snacks Boom
According to a study by the International Market Analysis Research and Consulting Group (IMARC), the Indian snacks and beverages market is projected to grow from ₹42,694.9 crore in 2023 to ₹95,521.8 crore by 2032. With such exponential growth on the horizon, PepsiCo is actively expanding its manufacturing capabilities and product portfolio to meet diverse regional tastes and preferences.
This expansion in Tamil Nadu comes on the heels of similar moves by the company in Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Assam. In 2023, PepsiCo inaugurated its first food manufacturing plant in Nalbari, Assam.
“India is amongst the fastest growing markets for PepsiCo in the AMESA region, and we are committed to invest in the nation to build capacity,” said Eugene Willemsen, CEO of PepsiCo AMESA region.
PepsiCo South Asia CEO Jagrut Kotecha emphasized the importance of catering to “multiple Indias,” acknowledging the country’s wide range of consumer tastes, health concerns, and culinary traditions.
As PepsiCo builds on its Kurkure-led legacy and introduces more localized offerings, its strategic investments point to a long-term vision rooted in India’s vibrant food culture and economic potential.
