In a major operation aimed at ensuring public health and food safety, the Jharkhand Food Safety Department carried out a surprise raid in Dhanbad and seized a significant quantity of adulterated dairy products, including fake paneer (cottage cheese), contaminated milk-based items, and sweets. The raid is part of the state government’s intensified drive to eliminate food adulteration, especially in the wake of rising health concerns linked to the consumption of unsafe food.
The department’s enforcement team, acting on credible information, conducted checks at several establishments in Dhanbad suspected of manufacturing and distributing counterfeit dairy products. During the operation, large quantities of suspected adulterated paneer and other dairy items were discovered and immediately confiscated. Officials confirmed that the seized goods appeared to be made using non-edible ingredients that could pose serious health risks if consumed.
To ensure scientific verification, all confiscated samples have been sent to the State Food Testing Laboratory. The laboratory will conduct a detailed chemical analysis to confirm the presence of harmful substances and determine whether the seized items meet the standards laid down by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). The results of this analysis will play a crucial role in determining the legal course of action against the violators.
The department has also taken action against a bus operator found transporting food materials without a valid food business license. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, transporting food items without proper documentation and licensing is a punishable offense. A formal notice has been issued to the bus owner, and further legal proceedings are expected to follow.
Speaking about the raid, a senior official from the Food Safety Department stated, “We are committed to protecting consumers from adulterated and unsafe food. Raids like this are essential to identify and eliminate sources of harmful food products in the market. No one will be spared if found guilty. Strict legal action will be taken once the lab reports are in.”
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious food production or sales activities in their area. Consumers are also advised to purchase food items only from licensed vendors and to check for proper labeling and packaging.
The crackdown has sent a strong message to those involved in the business of food adulteration, warning them of strict penalties and zero tolerance from the government. The Jharkhand Food Safety Department has reaffirmed its mission to ensure the availability of safe and hygienic food for all citizens across the state.
