Shimla | March 2026 — In a major push to strengthen the dairy sector and uplift the rural economy, the Himachal Pradesh government has signed three key Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the National Dairy Development Board.
📌 Key Highlights of the MoUs:
- Formation of Kangra Milk Union to strengthen cooperative dairy operations
- New Milk Processing Plants:
- 📍 Nahan (Sirmaur) – 20,000 LPD
- 📍 Nalagarh (Solan) – 20,000 LPD
- Milk Chilling Centres:
- 📍 Jalari (Hamirpur) – 20,000 LPD
- 📍 Jhalera (Una) – 20,000 LPD
- Digital Transformation:
- Implementation of ERP systems in the state dairy federation for better transparency and efficiency
🏭 Major Project: Dhagwar Dairy Plant:
A flagship project is underway at Dhagwar (Kangra district):
- 💰 Investment: ₹250 crore
- 🥛 Initial Capacity: 1.5 lakh litres/day
- 🔄 Expandable to: 3 lakh litres/day
- ⏳ Expected to be operational by October 2026
💬 Government’s Vision:
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized that the dairy sector is central to strengthening the rural economy. Himachal Pradesh has also become the first state in India to offer the highest support price for milk procurement:
- 🐄 Cow milk: ₹32 ➝ ₹51 per litre
- 🐃 Buffalo milk: ₹47 ➝ ₹61 per litre
Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar added that these initiatives will expand the reach of the “Him” dairy brand and directly benefit farmers across Kangra, Una, Hamirpur, and Chamba districts.
