In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) seized and destroyed nearly 450 kilograms of fake paneer during a raid conducted at a factory in Rajnandgaon district, Chhattisgarh. The action follows multiple complaints alleging the manufacture and sale of adulterated paneer, posing serious health risks to consumers.
The raid was carried out at Raunak Enterprises, where paneer was being produced and marketed under the brand name Surabhi Sponge. According to FSDA officials, the paneer was made using a harmful mixture of palm oil and milk powder, rendering it unsafe for human consumption.
A 15-member enforcement team, comprising officials from Rajnandgaon and Raipur, conducted the inspection. At the time of the raid, paneer production was actively underway. After assessing the situation, officials declared the entire stock unfit for consumption and ordered its immediate destruction on-site.
Ashish Yadav, Designated Officer, FSDA, stated that the department had received repeated complaints about the unit.
“The paneer was being manufactured using palm oil and milk powder, which is not permissible and poses health risks. Based on the complaints, we conducted the raid and destroyed the seized stock,” he said.
District Food Safety and Drug Officer Tarun Birla confirmed that samples of other dairy products, including kalakand and milk cake, produced at the same facility have been collected for laboratory testing. He further stated that the factory’s food license has been cancelled due to serious violations of food safety norms.
To prevent the adulterated product from re-entering the market, the seized paneer was buried within the factory premises under official supervision.
This operation highlights the continued efforts of FSSAI and FSDA to curb food adulteration and ensure that safe, high-quality food products reach consumers. Authorities reiterated that strict action will continue against violators to protect public health.
