In a major enforcement action, the Food Safety Department in Gautam Buddh Nagar has destroyed nearly 1,100 kilograms of unhygienic and unsafe sweets that were being prepared for supply to rural areas.
The inspection team discovered that the sweets were being manufactured and stored in extremely unsanitary conditions, posing a serious risk to public health. The production unit lacked basic hygiene standards, and officials found evidence of improper handling of ingredients and storage in contaminated surroundings.
According to department sources, the action was carried out as part of a special pre-festive food safety drive launched to curb the sale of adulterated and unsafe food products. With festive demand for sweets on the rise, food safety officials intensified their field inspections to ensure that only safe and hygienic products reach consumers.
Immediate Action and On-Site Destruction
Upon inspection, authorities immediately ordered the seizure and destruction of the entire batch of sweets on the spot. Samples were collected for laboratory analysis to determine the presence of adulterants or contaminants. Officials said that such unhygienic manufacturing practices will not be tolerated and that strict legal action will follow against those found guilty.
Ensuring Safe Festive Consumption
The department has also urged sweet manufacturers and food business operators to adhere strictly to hygiene and quality standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA). Citizens have been encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unhygienic food preparation activities in their areas.
A senior Food Safety Officer from Gautam Buddh Nagar said,
“Our priority is to ensure that the food being consumed by the public, especially during the festive season, is safe and of good quality. We will continue our surprise inspections and take strict action wherever violations are found.”
Commitment to Consumer Health
This crackdown underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring clean, safe, and trustworthy food for all. With continued surveillance and awareness campaigns, the Food Safety Department aims to eliminate unsafe food practices from both urban and rural supply chains.
The action serves as a reminder to all food producers that public health and safety must come first—no compromise will be tolerated when it comes to what reaches consumers’ plates.
