Army Rejects Food Supplies After Failing Quality Standards

The Indian Army Service Corps has rejected multiple food samples, including a substantial quantity of milk powder, after they failed to meet prescribed quality standards during laboratory testing.

According to an official communication issued by the unit, the samples submitted by different suppliers were found non-compliant with required specifications and were therefore rejected.

Items Rejected

The rejected consignment includes:

  • Milk Powder – 783 kg supplied by Ludhiana District Co-Operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd
  • Dal Arhar – 7.2 kg supplied by NAFED
  • Dehydrated Potato (Cubes) – 46.8 kg supplied by Garon Dehydrates Pvt Ltd

Strict Compliance Measures

The Army has directed the concerned firms to collect the rejected samples within seven days from the date of notification. Authorities have also stated that failure to comply within the stipulated timeline will lead to the destruction of the commodities, with no further claims entertained.

Focus on Food Safety

The development underscores the Indian Army’s stringent approach towards food safety and quality assurance, especially for supplies intended for personnel consumption. Maintaining high standards in food procurement remains critical to ensuring the health and well-being of armed forces.

Broader Implications

The rejection also brings attention to gaps in quality control within the food supply chain, particularly in essential commodities like dairy and pulses. Experts suggest that consistent monitoring, adherence to standards, and accountability across suppliers are key to preventing such incidents.
