In a major push to promote agricultural and processed food exports from India’s North-Eastern Region, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in partnership with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, hosted an International Conclave cum Buyer-Seller Meet (IBSM) at the Kalawangpo Convention Hall in Tawang.
The event saw participation from 11 international buyers representing UAE, Nepal, and Bhutan, 17 Indian exporters from 7 states and UTs, and over 350 farmers from Arunachal Pradesh. It aimed to foster direct market linkages, empower local producers, and unlock the agri-export potential of the region.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu, in his keynote address, emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural and allied sectors, uplifting farmer incomes, and promoting women-led development through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). He highlighted export opportunities for local produce such as GI-tagged Khamti Rice, Mandarin Orange, Kiwi, Apple, Persimmon, and Yak Cheese (Churpi) to Southeast Asian and ASEAN markets.
Senior officials including Chief Secretary Manish Gupta, former Union Secretary Siraj Hussain, and APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev also addressed the gathering, underlining the central and state governments’ joint efforts to transform the region into a vibrant agri-export hub.
Exporters engaged in direct discussions with over 50 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and farmers to explore sourcing opportunities and understand local production capabilities.
This conclave marks a significant step in integrating North-Eastern India with global agricultural trade networks and building sustainable export-oriented rural economies.
