Reliance Consumer Products Ltd (RCPL), the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries, has acquired a majority stake in Udhaiyams Agro Foods Pvt. Ltd, a well-known Tamil Nadu-based nutrition and staples brand. The acquisition was announced on December 18, 2025, as part of Reliance’s push to strengthen its domestic food portfolio.
Under the joint venture agreement, Reliance Consumer will hold the majority stake, while the original promoters of Udhaiyams Agro, S. Sudhakar and S. Dinakar, will retain a minority holding. The deal brings the legacy brand Udhaiyam, known for its nutrition-focused food products, under Reliance Consumer’s expanding FMCG umbrella.
Reliance said the acquisition aligns with its vision of promoting India’s heritage food brands while delivering global-quality products at affordable prices. Udhaiyam has been a trusted name in South India for decades, particularly for staple food products such as pulses, edible oils, sugar, spices and idli batter.
Commenting on the deal, T. Krishnakumar, Director at Reliance Consumer Products, said Udhaiyam is a brand that reflects Tamil Nadu’s rich food heritage combined with scientific quality standards. He added that the partnership will strengthen Reliance’s presence in the branded staples segment.
Going forward, Reliance Consumer plans to scale Udhaiyam’s operations nationwide, taking its products beyond South India and positioning them as part of a broader shift toward healthier eating habits across the country.
Meanwhile, Reliance Industries shares ended Thursday’s trading session marginally lower at ₹1,544.35 on the BSE. Despite short-term fluctuations, the stock has delivered over 55% returns in the last five years, underlining investor confidence in the company’s long-term growth strategy.
