Kerala, August 2025 — In a major crackdown on food adulteration, the Kerala Food Safety Department has seized approximately 16,564 liters of suspected adulterated coconut oil from a unit operating with a fake FSSAI license.
During the inspection, authorities discovered large quantities of coconut oil being processed and stored without valid approvals. All seized products have been sampled and sent for laboratory analysis to confirm the extent of adulteration.
Officials confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against those responsible once test reports are finalized.
Fake Licensing a Growing Concern
The discovery of a unit functioning with a forged FSSAI license has raised fresh concerns about illegal operations in the edible oil sector. Such practices not only defraud consumers but also pose serious health risks.
FSSAI’s Stand
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and state departments have repeatedly stressed a zero-tolerance approach to food fraud, assuring that violators will face severe penalties under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Consumer Safety First
Coconut oil is a widely consumed product in Kerala, used for cooking, skincare, and hair care. Adulteration in such a staple product can have serious health and safety implications for lakhs of households.
