In a major crackdown, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) of Jammu & Kashmir uncovered shocking violations at a local cold storage facility. Officials seized 440 quintals of Rasgullas, valued at around ₹50 lakh, that were being stored in highly unhygienic conditions.
The sweets were reportedly meant for sale during the upcoming festive season. However, the cold storage unit was found to be operating without a valid license from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
Recognizing the severe health risk posed to consumers, the FDA ordered the immediate destruction of the entire consignment.
Authorities emphasized that this action underscores FSSAI’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding public health. By enforcing strict standards, the agency aims to ensure that only safe and hygienic food products reach the market.
“Your health is our priority. We will continue strict surveillance and enforcement to curb such malpractices,” officials affirmed.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety regulations, especially during festive seasons when demand for sweets and packaged foods peaks.
