Rajkot, August 21, 2025 — The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has seized around 6,500 kg of adulterated ghee worth ₹35 lakhs from a dairy unit in Rajkot during its Special Ghee Surveillance Drive.
The raid was carried out at M/s Korova Milk Product Pvt. Ltd., where initial samples of ghee were sent to an FSSAI-notified laboratory. Test results confirmed that the product was “sub-standard” and adulterated with vegetable fat, a clear violation of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations, 2011.
The Food Business Operator (FBO) was informed of the lab results and given one month to appeal by sending a sample to a referral laboratory. However, no appeal was filed, leading to a follow-up inspection on August 20, 2025.
During the inspection, FSSAI seized all available stocks of raw ingredients and finished ghee products from the Rajkot dairy. Fresh samples were also collected for further testing.
Strict Legal Action Ahead
The Central Licensing Authority has confirmed that further legal and regulatory action will be initiated against the dairy unit, depending on the final laboratory reports and investigation outcomes.
FSSAI emphasized its zero-tolerance policy towards food adulteration, reiterating that consumers have the right to safe and unadulterated food. Violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act will be dealt with strictly.
Why This Matters
Ghee is a staple in Indian households, and adulteration not only affects its quality but also poses serious health risks to consumers. FSSAI’s surveillance drive is part of its broader effort to curb food fraud and ensure strict compliance with safety standards across the country.
