According to an official order issued by the Office of the Assistant Commissioner / Designated Officer, Food Safety, Anantnag, a food sample of CREMICA Digestive biscuit was collected from the market by the Food Safety Officer, Larnoo. The product belongs to Lot No. BD10K25 and is manufactured by M/s MRS Bector’s Food Specialities Ltd., with manufacturing and marketing units located in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab respectively.
The sample was tested by the National Food Laboratory, Ghaziabad, which confirmed that the biscuit contained sulphite levels exceeding the maximum prescribed limit. Based on the laboratory report dated 01 January 2026, the product was classified as “unsafe” under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Officials stated that consumption of food products containing excess sulphite may pose serious health risks, especially to sensitive individuals, including children and those with respiratory conditions.
Invoking powers under Section 36(3)(b) of the FSS Act, 2006, the Designated Officer has prohibited the sale of the said biscuit product in Anantnag district with immediate effect, until further orders.
The Food Safety Department has advised traders, retailers, and consumers to refrain from selling or consuming the affected product batch and warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators.
The Food Safety Department, Anantnag, has imposed a ban on the sale of “CREMICA Digestive” biscuits within the district after laboratory analysis declared the product unsafe for human consumption.
