The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Avinash Purushottam Das Joshi (IAS: 1994: AM) as the new Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). He is set to assume charge today.
Prior to this, Joshi was serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). His elevation comes at a time when the MoFPI had been without a full-time Secretary since June 1, 2025, following the retirement of Subrat Gupta (IAS: 1990: WB) on May 31.
In the interim, Sanjeev Chopra (IAS: 1990: OR), Secretary of the Department of Food & Public Distribution, had been holding additional charge of MoFPI.
Interestingly, Nidhi Chhibber (IAS: 1994: CG) was earlier appointed as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the ministry to take over from Gupta. However, her appointment was later revised, and she was assigned the role of Director General of the Development Monitoring and Evaluation Office (DMEO) at NITI Aayog, in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.
Joshi’s appointment to MoFPI now leaves a vacancy at the Additional Secretary level at the Centre, which the government is expected to fill soon.
