India’s dairy giant Amul is taking bold steps to diversify its portfolio beyond milk and dairy products. In a strategic move aimed at cementing its position as a full-scale FMCG player, Amul will soon launch certified organic tea, sugar, and spices.
The announcement comes after a strong financial performance in FY25, where the company reported a record turnover of ₹66,000 crore, making it the largest FMCG company in India, according to Managing Director Jayen Mehta. Amul’s revenue now stands 10% higher than its nearest multinational competitor, and the brand is setting its sights on a ₹1 lakh crore turnover by the end of FY26.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18, Mehta emphasized that the foray into staples like tea, sugar, and spices aligns with Amul’s broader goal of becoming a comprehensive household brand for Indian consumers. The company is also scaling up other verticals — ice cream sales are projected to grow 35–40% this year, and protein beverage production capacity is set to increase fivefold beginning May 1.
While many FMCG companies are feeling the heat from inflationary pressures, Amul has chosen not to raise milk prices for now, aiming to maintain affordability and customer trust.
Beyond the domestic market, Amul is eyeing aggressive international expansion, especially in the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, tapping into strong demand for Indian food products.
This diversification into organic staples marks a significant shift in Amul’s growth strategy, positioning the cooperative powerhouse as a direct competitor to established FMCG players across multiple food segments.
